The Code It! Challenge
We challenge you to design & code an 8-bit style video game.
Code It! is an arcade game design challenge open to all D65 students and Evanston residents in grades 5th – 8th.
The rules are simple: design a video game using MakeCode Arcade, include at least 10 core game elements, and submit it by December 5th. You can complete this challenge in an afternoon, but the more game elements you include and the more you participate the better your chances of winning the best prizes.
No experience is required.
Never designed a video game before? Don’t sweat it. We have you covered. Check out the Code It! Challenge YouTube Channel for 20+ video tutorials. Additionally, we will host weekly livestream tutorials and drop-in hours to answer your coding questions.
Submit your game and earn a chance to win prizes.
Anyone who submits a game before the December 5th deadline will be entered into a prize raffle. The more gaming elements you include in your game the better prizes you can win. You can also earn additional prize tokens by participating in mini-challenges. We will feature your game, celebrate all participants, and pick raffle winners in a citywide showcase on December 11th.
