The Code It! Challenge

We challenge you to design & code an 8-bit style video game.

Register

Code It! is an arcade game design challenge open to all D65 students and Evanston residents in grades 5th – 8th.

The rules are simple: design a video game using MakeCode Arcade, include at least 10 core game elements, and submit it by April 6th. You can complete this challenge in an afternoon, but the more game elements you include and the more you participate the better your chances of winning the best prizes.

Challenge Rules

No experience is required.

Never designed a video game before? Don’t sweat it. We have you covered. Check out the Code It! Challenge YouTube Channel for 20+ video tutorials. Additionally, we will host weekly virtual tutorials and drop-in hours to answer your coding questions.

Tutorials

Submit your game and earn a chance to win prizes.

Anyone who submits a game before the April 6th deadline will be entered into a prize raffle. The more gaming elements you include in your game, the better prizes you can win. You can also earn additional prize tokens by submitting artifacts and attending workshops.

At the Arcade Showcase from 2:00 – 3:30 PM on April 12th at Fleetwood-Jourdain, all attendees get to play the games, receive a PyBadge Game Device, and pick raffle winners.
